BELAIR--A ceremony was held at the Belair Community Centre on Wednesday to award diplomas to seven attendees of a pool and hot spa operators’ seminar held by the National Swimming Pool Foundation (NSPF).

NSPF, based in Colorado, United States, is an educational institution in the recreational water industry. It conducted a seminar to certify pool and hot spa operators on August 20 and 21, which was attended by resort maintenance personnel, St. Maarten Health Department staff, and companies that provide pool and hot spa services.

The two-day seminar included workshops on water disinfection protocols, chemical balance, aquatic pathogenic outbreaks, water circulation, filtration, therapy pools, safety concerns, and legal liabilities.

The event was intended to professionalise local personnel in the process of making pools and hot spas safer and healthier, NSPF said in a press release. This will certainly have a positive impact on the local hospitality industry as well as the private community, NSPF said.

The seminar was conducted by NSPF certified instructor Eliezer Alejandro.
