Detained police officer hospitalised on Friday

PHILIPSBURG--Suspect J.G. (42) was transported to hospital on Friday evening after suffering a massive stroke while in pre-trial detention.

On advice of his doctor, he was transported for further medical treatment to Louis Constant Fleming Hospital on the French side. In a statement to the media, the Prosecutor's Office said it would not comment on his medical condition due to confidentiality.

The suspect, a police officer, was arrested earlier this month in connection with the Whale investigation. He was visited earlier this week by the Probation Services and his doctor. He is suspected of bribery, forgery, and breach of confidentiality.

The man will remain in pre-trial detention, according to the Prosecutor’s Office spokesman over the weekend.
