MARIGOT--Daniel Gibbs has been elected Senator for Saint-Martin following the second round of the Senate election held on Sunday, September 27.
The election was conducted by indirect suffrage among the territory’s electoral college. As no candidate secured an absolute majority in the first round, a second round was held from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. The election of a senator for Saint-Martin is conducted under the majority system with two rounds.
A total of 25 electors were registered and all 25 voted. There were 24 valid votes and one invalid ballot, while no blank ballots were recorded.
In the second round, Gibbs received 13 votes, while Valérie Damaseau received 11.
Gibbs was declared elected after receiving the highest number of votes in the second round.
The results were publicly proclaimed by the electoral college bureau following the count.
The 2026 Senate elections are part of the renewal of Series 2, which includes Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy. The French Interior Ministry said the elections in the overseas territories are held by indirect universal suffrage through an electoral college.
