Country-wide outage,GEBE 'assessing'

PHILIPSBURG--Lights and airconditioning units went off throughout Dutch St. Maarten just before 2:00pm today in what the company has called a total blackout.

  GEBE media relations official Paula Gordon says the company is curremtly assessing the situation to see what caused the total blackout.

  The Belair cable which feeds the Cay Hill area where St. Maarten Medical Center is located was prompy restored within half an hour and Gordon said other areas will follow.
