Corallo withdraws extradition appeal

PHILIPSBURG—Atlantis Group owner Francesco Corallo has withdrawn his appeal to the High Court in the Netherlands regarding his extradition to Italy. This means that the ruling in favour of extradition has now become irrevocable, according to a press release from Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Norman Serphos.

The court documents will now go to the Governor of St. Maarten for the last formalities. The decision was taken after a request by Italy on January 12, 2017 for his extradition. Corallo has been locked up in a Philipsburg police cell since December 2016.

The Prosecutor’s Office has stated on numerous occasions that Corallo will be tried in Italy for, among other things, tax evasion of more than 250 million euros and membership in a criminal organisation.

Italian-born casino boss Corallo, who is a Dutch national since July 2000, is also suspected of using his businesses for money-laundering.
