Construction of Link 6 road approved by Steering Group

POND ISLAND--The country may soon see the construction of a new major roadway linking Bethlehem/Belvedere over the hill to L.B. Scott Road near Milton Peters College.

The building of the Link 6 roadway has been approved by the St. Maarten Recovery Trust Fund Steering Committee, Minister of Spatial Planning and Infrastructure Miklos Giterson said on Wednesday.

The project is under review by the World Bank, which is administering the trust fund on behalf of the Dutch government.

“It is looking positive,” Giterson told the press. “Let’s keep our fingers crossed that it can be a realisation as soon as possible.”

The “fine details” of the road construction plan need to still be worked out, he said.

The road is severely needed to alleviate the country’s traffic congestion and to provide alternative access to neighbourhoods at times of disasters such as the aftermath of a hurricane.
