Collectivité to organise modified July 14 Bastille Day celebration

MARIGOT--Due to restrictions associated with COVID-19, the Collectivité discloses there will be some changes to the usual format of this year’s Bastille Day celebration on Tuesday, July 14.

The official programme will be made up of the following sequences: wreath laying at the war memorial in the garden of Hotel de la Collectivité at 10:00am followed by official presentation of medals and ribbons by representatives of the state at 10:15am.

Speeches will be made from 10:45am onwards but will be live-streamed from the Collectivité’s Facebook page and its YouTube page. Radio and television stations will be able to broadcast the ceremony and speeches live.

The Collectivité’s Culture Department has proposed something new for entertainment on the evening of July 14. A drive-in concert and giant Karaoke will be organised in the Galisbay car park from 6:00pm to 11:00pm.

Borrowing from the popular drive-in movie theatres in America, this unprecedented live concert will feature several local performing artistes. The audience will remain in their vehicles, a maximum of four persons per vehicle, and will be able to enjoy the musical entertainment via an FM radio frequency.

More information on this event and the line-up of artistes will be issued nearer the time.
