Collectivité advises take protective measures against dengue fever

MARIGOT--The Collectivité of St. Martin informs the population that active dengue fever outbreaks have been identified in some neighbourhoods (Friar's Bay and Concordia) by the Regional Health Agency ARS.

In parallel with the measures taken by the Regional Health Agency and the competent institutional services, the Collectivité recommends the population protect themselves from mosquitoes: strengthen personal protection measures: install screens on windows, install screens around beds, protect homes, wear long sleeve clothing and long pants and use mosquito repellent.

Eliminate mosquito breeding grounds by cleaning house and garden areas, removing objects that collect standing water such as old tyres and flower vases, clean out rain gutters, and cover cisterns.

Contact the Collectivité at (0590) 52. 27. 30 (ask for the Environment Department) to remove any car wrecks as these can become breeding sites for mosquitoes. The Collectivité invites the population to observe these points of vigilance in order to fight against proliferation of mosquitoes on the territory.
