Charter members enjoying themselves
PHILIPSBURG--The Chuchubi Foundation charter to Aruba’s 65th Carnival,
from February 27 to March 6, was labelled a great success.
The charter was organised in collaboration with Winair. The fun started on the departure flight where several gifts were raffled; the main prize, an Apple iPhone donated by TelEm Group of Companies was won by Jacky Vrolijk, according to the foundation on Wednesday.
The foundation organised two events while in Aruba: a Party Bus Island Tour attended by approximately 80 persons who were treated to drinks, snacks and musical entertainment; and, in collaboration with Friends on Aruba, the “Last Lap Dance” on March 4 which was attended by more than 400 persons.
During the dance the foundation honoured Donald Baly, a veteran Aruba basketball and volleyball coach for more than 50 years. Many of his former players who attended the dance took a picture with their coach and reminisced about the many competitions and championships they shared.
Chuchubi Foundation was presented an award with a monetary donation for its years of dedication to the community of San Nicolas, and a plaque was presented to Lorna Jansen-Varlack for her assistance in organising the events in Aruba. A small Chuchubi Foundation committee paid a courtesy visit to Governor of Aruba A. Boekhoudt and presented him with a commemorative gift from St. Maarten.
A token of appreciation was delivered to former Prime Minister Mike Eman in appreciation for his assistance given to St. Maarten during Hurricane Irma. The committee also visited Errol Brown, a well-known Carnival group leader and costume maker for many years in Aruba.
The Foundation thanked all who participated in the tour and who helped with the organising of all the events. Special thanks were also extended to the petite committee of Aruba, consisting of Jansen-Varlack, Emiliano Baarh and Andy Young; and from St. Maarten Evita Arrundell of Calypso Tours Travel Agency; Clarette Conner; Chuchubi Foundation committee Glenda Groeneveldt-Smith, Barbara Warren-James and Sheila Kelly-Helmen; and the other Chuchubi members.
This was the third charter organised by Chuchubi Foundation to Aruba Carnival.
