Colourful band
ANGUILLA--The children of Anguilla had great fun as they enjoyed their own parade as part of the Summer Festival instead of being part of the adult parade. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, July 28, youngsters in costume along with family, friends and onlookers enjoyed a colourful parade with the island’s youth as they showcased their carnival spirit. Their route covered approximately half the distance of the adult parade, winding through the streets of the Valley and ending at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre.
Leading the parade were the 2019-2020 Prince Chadero Kent and Princess Lacoya Carmont from the Morris Vanterpool Primary School. Competing against contestants from five other primary schools, they won the contest on Saturday evening, July 27. Winner of the Miss Tiny Tott pageant, Alissa Hodge followed in her ornately decorated dress costume perched on the back of a yellow convertible.
Although the total number of troupes was small, they were all filled with excited children in colourful costumes, dancing to a variety of current calypso tunes. The troupes included three categories of majorettes, a combined school children group and a drumming group.
