PHILIPSBURG--The St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce and Industry (COCI) delivered a business information session for members of the Jamaican diaspora, providing guidance on starting and operating a business in St. Maarten.

The session was held on July 21 at the invitation of the Jamaican Consulate as part of activities leading up to Jamaica’s 64th Independence Anniversary on August 6.

During the presentation, COCI Director Jude Houston outlined the Chamber’s statutory functions and its role in promoting a healthy business environment.

Participants also received information on the different types of business entities, the business registration process and the government departments and agencies entrepreneurs must engage to establish and operate compliant businesses in St. Maarten. Additional practical advice on doing business on the island was also shared.

According to a press release, attendees expressed appreciation for the presentation, saying it provided valuable information for both existing and aspiring business owners.

The Jamaican Consulate thanked COCI, Houston, and D-Ways Restaurant for their contributions to the event. The Consulate said the session strengthened participants' understanding of the local business environment and reinforced the importance of operating compliant and sustainable businesses in St. Maarten.
