Body of man killed Friday confiscated for investigation

CAY HILL--The body of the man killed at Teke Teke Bar on Welgelegen Road on Friday evening has been confiscated for investigations.

The victim was unofficially identified as Shafien Mauricia (28) from Curaçao. Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said in a police press release over the weekend that a gunman had entered the bar and had fired several shots, fatally injuring the man.

The incident occurred between 9:30pm and 10:30pm. The perpetrator fled the scene in an unknown vehicle. Henson said it was still unclear what exactly had happened on the scene and who was responsible for the murder.

Police medic Dr. Mike Mercuur was on the scene and pronounced the victim dead. Police, detectives and the Police Forensic Department arrived shortly after the incident to conduct an investigation. Police cordoned off the area where the incident had occurred and diverted traffic to allow the Forensic Department to collect evidence while the detectives spoke to witnesses.

According to media in Curacao, Mauricia was allegedly an active member of the notorious No Limit Soldiers (NLS) gang. He was from Koraal Specht and moved to Sint Maarten recently.
