MARIGOT--A dead body was found in a shipping container in the commercial port of Galis Bay on Wednesday.
Gendarmes intervened when the discovery was made at 12:30pm. The body was locked inside the container which could not be opened from the inside but was not locked on the outside.
Vice-Prosecutor Yves Paillard said in a release forensic and criminal identification technicians are processing the preliminary findings but due to the advanced state of decomposition of the body, identification is not possible at the moment.
He said the container had been left empty at the Galis Bay port since January after it was landed and its contents unloaded on the Dutch-side of the island.
The investigation is treating the body’s discovery as suspicion of homicide. Persons with any information that could help the investigation are asked to call the number 17.
