MARIGOT--French-side prosecutor Jacques Louvier said neither Robert Brous nor the dark blue BMW four-door rental car that he was driving had been located as of Wednesday evening, but detectives from both sides of the island were working on the case.
Robert Brous (42), an American interior designer who was on a short vacation staying at La Samanna Hotel with a female companion, was reported missing on January 22 and has not been heard from since. His family are extremely concerned, particularly as the only credit card he had in his possession at the time of his disappearance has not been used since January 22, according to his sister.
Moreover, his other possessions, including wallet and passport, were left behind in the hotel room.
Louvier said forensic experts had inspected the hotel room on Wednesday for any clues. Brous had had an argument with his female companion, which resulted in the woman leaving the island soon afterwards, according to Louvier. He added that Brous had had a history of substance abuse but was now supposed to be clean. Brous' sister said the two were not boyfriend and girlfriend. She conceded that her brother recently "had not been at his happiest."
