PHILIPSBURG--The Police Traffic Department responded to a traffic accident between a car and a motorcycle without any licence plate on Middle Region Road in front of Win Li Supermarket at 2:15pm Tuesday.

According to police, the driver of the car came from the direction of Defiance Road and made a left turn while the motorcycle rider came from the opposite direction and did not give the car preference, causing a head-on collision. The impact threw both the motorcycle and the rider in the air and the bike landed on top of him.

As a result of the accident, the rider suffered a broken right leg and the motorcycle had quite some damage. The rider was treated on the scene by paramedics and transported afterward to St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) for further treatment.

The driver of the car did not suffer any injuries, but the car had damage to the front and a shattered windshield.
