MARIGOT--All beaches on the French side will be open from today, May 8, for swimming or individual sports such as walking or jogging until June 1, 2020, the Collectivité confirmed last night.

The Collectivité clarified that the beaches were originally closed as a safety measure due to the COVID-19 crisis and not because of water quality and therefore, re-opening is not dependent immediately on water-quality tests. However, regional health authority ARS will still issue the results of water-quality tests.

The decree stipulates that BBQs, picnics, and large gatherings on the beach are still prohibited until further notice. President of the Collectivité Daniel Gibbs is counting on everyone to be responsible and asks the population to scrupulously respect these common-sense instructions.

Law enforcement will be in charge of enforcing this decree and, if necessary, fine offenders.
