ST. EUSTATIUS--An all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) were involved in an incident at the intersection of Concordia Road and Theodore A.M. Pandt Road (Airport Boulevard) around 12:00pm Sunday, September 11.

During an effort to avoid a collision, the driver of the ATV lost control of the vehicle, as a result of which the ATV ran off the road and landed in a roadside ditch. The violent impact caused the driver to be catapulted out of the ATV and land a few feet away from the ATV, which had landed upside down in the gutter.

Personnel of the Caribbean Netherlands Fire Department, who witnessed the accident, as it took place a few metres from the Statia fire station, rushed to provide assistance to the injured ATV operator and to enquire about the health of the SUV driver.

The Queen Beatrix Medical Centre Ambulance Department and the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force were called to carry out their tasks.

The scene was pronounced safe by the Fire Department’s team leader after the ATV was placed back in a stable and secured position. The SUV driver was examined at the scene and the ATV operator was lifted into the ambulance with the assistance of bystanders, ambulance personnel and firefighters.
