PHILIPSBURG--Almost 400 persons walked, ran and cycled from the Walter Nisbeth Road to the Kim Sha Beach to help raise awareness of breast cancer in the annual Pink Phit Phabulous walk, run and cycle event on Sunday.

Co-coordinator Mercedes “Electra” Waytt-van der Walls of the Elektralyets Foundation said she was happy to see so many persons participate in the event, which she said was fun and exciting. “Participants were enthusiastic and were full of smiles during the event,” she said adding that the walk had been incident free.

The St. Maarten Red Cross volunteers were on hand throughout the walk. Participants left the starting point at the parking lot opposite the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS) and headed onto the Walter Nisbeth Road (Pondfill Road); onto the Longwall Road, up Link 1 and Link 2, on to Union Road past Divico, the Causeway Bridge and ended at Kimsha Beach, where a zumba class was held.

Sponsors included Insurance Company of the West Indies (ICWI), which funded free T-shirts for participants and other goodies; Manrique Capriles who kept participants equipped with backpacks, water bottles and Neutrogena mini towels; Divico, which supplied food items and drinks for the participants at the end of the walk and Susy Maidwell-Piscione.

The Pink Phit Phabulous event was part of the activities being held this month in commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The events will continue on October 22, with the “Paint it Pink”event at Kooyman from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. The “Bikers for Boobs” event will also be held this month.
