PHILIPSBURG--All schools in St Maarten will be closed on Monday, August 31, 2026, due to inclement weather expected to continue through midday as a result of the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly.
Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Melissa Gumbs informed all subsidized school boards, private school boards and the Division of Public Education of the closure in a letter on Sunday, August 30, following consultation with the Meteorological Office of Sint Maarten.
The Education Ministry said the weather situation will be monitored and schools will be informed if an extension of the closure is deemed necessary.
School boards have been urgently requested to notify their staff, students, parents and guardians about Monday’s closure. The closure applies to all schools.
