All French-side schools to close at 12:00 noon

MARIGOT--Préfet Vincent Berton has ordered all public and private schools on the French side to be closed today for the passing of Tropical Storm Fiona. Due to the deteriorating weather and uncertainty over the storm’s trajectory, the decision was made in consultation with the presidents of the Collectivités of St. Martin and St. Barths.

Schools in St. Martin will close at 12:00 noon today, and in St. Barths, at 2:00pm. School canteens will also be closed. The Préfecture advises the population to continue preparations and to keep themselves informed by listening to weather updates.
The second job-dating sessions for the construction sector planned for today, Friday, in Marigot, in the parking lot of Hôtel de la Collectivité from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, have been postponed and re-scheduled for September 23 at the same hours.
The signing of a tri-partite convention at Grand Case Airport Friday afternoon has also been postponed. A new date will be confirmed.
Marigot Merchants Association President Yann Lecam said weather permitting, shops would be open normally in the morning. However, shop owners are permitted to make their own decisions as no orders for a closure have been issued by the Préfecture.
The last Sandy Ground bridge opening today is at 8;30am.
