People looking for work should make use of the upcoming tourism season, when more personnel is traditionally needed. They can start by attending the National Job Fair this Thursday, September 24 (see Friday/Saturday edition) in Aleeze Convention Center at Madame Estate from 11:00am to 6:00pm.
National Employment Service Center (NESC) of the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labor VSA is organising the annual event, with a pre- registration warm-up today, Tuesday between 6:00pm and 8:00pm at the National Institute for Professional Advancement (NIPA) in Cay Hill. Employers from the hospitality, timeshare and property services, marine and yachting, wholesale and retail, utilities and finance sectors will be among those recruiting staff at the fair.
According to a 2025 stakeholder analysis, 68.4% of surveyed businesses expressed interest in partnering with NESC, while 73% indicated willingness to hire through its services. Prospective jobseekers were urged to bring updated resumes.
The latter is important, because being able to write a proper application letter and CV in correct English was recently cited as an issue even in local secondary education. So make an effort when putting something on paper, preferably using computer spellcheck to avoid errors.
Above all, adopt a positive attitude and keep an open mind. Even if what’s now available is not your dream job, becoming active in the labour market helps gain valuable work experience and adds beneficial structure to one’s life.
What’s more, doing so provides for contact and exchange of information with relevant others including colleagues, which can open new doors. In general, when opportunity knocks, it pays to be ready.
