You may already be familiar with Let’s Talk Art and other creative initiatives emerging from a new organisation in St. Maarten: the Let’s Talk Foundation. Officially incorporated after establishing a strong presence through community-based events, the Foundation is a registered non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering and promoting the island’s cultural and creative industries. Its work focusses on growth, collaboration and innovation within the Orange Economy.
Operating under the Foundation is Let’s Talk Art, its primary platform supporting artists, creatives, and cultural practitioners through events, publications, and advocacy. The platform acts as a bridge between creativity, community, and opportunity, while contributing to a more sustainable and professional creative sector in St. Maarten.
Over the past year, the Let’s Talk Foundation has strengthened the local cultural landscape by creating pathways for creatives to develop skills, gain visibility, and build sustainable careers. Initiatives delivered through Let’s Talk Art include the Let’s Talk Art Event Series, which features live performances, panel discussions, and art exhibitions that bring together creatives, the wider public, and key stakeholders. The Foundation also introduced the Jam Session, an inclusive, performance-based event that provides musicians, poets, and other performance artists with a supportive space to connect, collaborate, and share their work.
Complementing these larger events is Creative Link Up, a recurring initiative offering accessible, practical spaces for creatives to network, exchange ideas, and develop skills. Through workshops, collaborative sessions, and informal networking, Creative Link Up strengthens peer connections and encourages ongoing creative growth at the grassroots level.
Looking ahead, the Foundation is preparing to launch 37 Square Miles of Creativity, Culture & Heritage, a documentary-style podcast and visual storytelling series scheduled for release later this year. The project will feature in-depth conversations with St. Maarten’s creatives and cultural figures, highlighting their lived experiences, creative processes, and contributions to the island’s cultural identity.
The incorporation of the Let’s Talk Foundation and the initiatives highlighted above are supported through the Let’s ACT Program, funded by the Fonds voor Cultuurparticipatie and implemented in partnership with CEDE Aruba, the St. Maarten Development Fund, and Foresee Foundation. The programme is designed to expand public access to the arts, support local creatives, and build a sustainable cultural and artistic infrastructure on St. Maarten and Aruba. Running from April 2025 through September 2026, Let’s ACT empowers local artists and cultural organisations through funding, training, mentorship, and community engagement.
According to the Let’s Talk Foundation team, “Supporting local creatives means investing in identity, opportunity, and the future of St. Maarten.” Individuals and organisations interested in supporting the Foundation can volunteer, partner on initiatives, share expertise, or provide sponsorship and resources.
