Jolie Duzon delegation returns inspired from ‘Summer Sizzle BVI’

Representing the island at the premier fashion event of the Caribbean region, “Summer Sizzle BVI”, St. Maarten fashion brand Jolie Duzon returned this week with new inspiration and a vastly expanded network in the world of fashion. This was announced by the brand as she thanked the 50+ St. Maarteners and St. Maarten companies that made her trip possible.

The first delegation from the island to visit the fashion event consisted of founder and designer Zillah Duzon-Hazel, St. Maarten model Kimberly Meyer and assistant Lea Rojas. Summer Sizzle BVI 2023 comprised a full week of events, tradeshows, catwalks and parties, all centred on Caribbean fashion designers and their products.

A video portraying Jolie Duzon designs has been published online and was already watched 1,000 times – barely 24 hours after the delegation set foot on St. Maarten soil again.

Duzon-Hazel is very grateful to have had this opportunity, the interest and support for her mission. Her work having become well known on St. Maarten, worn by the Prime Minister on the opening day of parliament and appraised by her Majesty Queen Maxima, Duzon is now trying to establish ties to get the island brand highlighted beyond the region. In the process, she hopes to promote her island of birth.

To join the prestigious show and to be able to afford the costly logistics to take part, Duzon-Hazel started a fundraiser. She is so very appreciative of all the assistance and support she has received, and she shares: “The in-depth investment needed has already paid off in a great way for me. It was an amazing experience from beginning to end. I had the honour to meet Korto Momolu of the world famous Project Runway series, a hero of mine. I had an invitation by designers to join their work on New York fashion week. I am humbled by the new opportunities opening up, even though there also remains a lot more to do now.”

In addition to her opportunity to meet fashion brands, couturiers and to have the ability to put her brand on a whole new platform, she will also remember her meeting with celebrity host of the event, Joy Reid, who is anchor newswoman of MSNBC’s famed morning program “AM Joy”.

“Overall, I commend the organizers of Summer Sizzle BVI for the atmosphere at the event. The feeling of positivity and mutual help – a quest to reinforce one another was key over the past weeks; a landmark experience in my life”
