Emma Foundation: Making a difference for the children of St. Maarten

By Foresee Foundation

Any society depends on the extent to which it expands opportunities early in life for all children. This should give every child the opportunity to achieve his or her full potential and engage in responsible and productive citizenship. Providing healthy child development as the foundation of economic prosperity, strong communities and a just society, is an excellent mission for a youth focused foundation. Emma Foundation is striving to make a positive impact on St. Maarten.

What does your organization do and who is your target group?

The Emma Foundation was founded almost eight months ago with an aim to create projects that assist families with children with special and atypical needs. The foundation launched the “Hope in Sight” project in 2021 and is currently working on designing workshops for parents with children on the autism spectrum.

How does your organization contribute to a better St. Maarten for all?

Minority groups may often be ignored on St. Maarten. Families with children who require special or extra attention need support in a variety of ways. Through partnership and collaboration, the Emma Foundation aims to give back by providing support to families, teachers, therapists and other organizations on St. Maarten.

Give examples of activities you usually host or have hosted to achieve your organization's goals.

We recently finalized the first annual “Hope in Sight” project in which 70 free, new prescription glasses were given to children between the ages of four and 16, whose families were affected financially by the pandemic.

What message would you like to send out to the community to support your group's goals?

We are thankful for donations of any size as they go directly to supporting families in need. It truly takes a village to raise a child, and so the Emma Foundation believes that a little goes a long way once love and compassion are involved.
