Be part of the buzz and share, discover, or rediscover your love for reading by joining or hosting a book party with colleagues, classmates, friends or family. This is the call of the CLIMB Foundation, in the lead up to World Literacy Day on September 8. The foundation is also inviting businesses and other organisations in particular to host book parties, where the whole team gets together and everyone shares the joy of reading. The pro-literacy campaign is dubbed “St. Maarten, Drop Everything and Read” or “DEAR SXM.”
This is not just an event, but part of a National Literacy Movement, inspired by successful national and international reading programmes.
DEAR SXM community activities will take place on the 8th of each month, leading up to September 8, World Literacy Day. “This occasion is intended to be vibrant and celebratory, and we encourage everyone to select one or more local books and explore inventive ways to embrace reading,” says the foundation. Groups are also encouraged to share their book party experiences, including book details, by making Facebook posts and tagging @sxmclimb.
“Through the CLIMB Foundation DEAR SXM movement, we aspire to create a culture in which literacy is valued and prioritised, becoming a shared responsibility of all members of our society.” Interested groups are invited to confirm their participation by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
