Through Cam's Lens: Consistency

“Mmh whatcha say

Mmh that you only meant well?

Well, of course you did

Mmh whatcha say (Jason Derulo)

Mmh that it's all for the best?

Of course it is”

So I’m reading this book called The Logic of God by Ravi Zacharias and some of the stuff he said had my brain juices going: “The call to a life reflecting the person of Christ is the ultimate calling upon the apologist. Sceptics are not slow to notice when there is a disparity, and because of that, may question the whole gospel in its supernatural claim.”

Paraphrasing now: He also said that many will see the gospel before they hear it – so, basically, Christians should be living a life that consistently reflects and represents God. This made me think about parents, government, teachers and Olympic weightlifting. It made me think about parents and government, because we sometimes see these two parties have a “do as I say and not as I do” type of mentality.

Have you ever seen a parent come for their kid’s neck for swearing, but they bussing bad words left and right in their kid’s presence? Have you ever seen a government official pressure people to help flatten the curve, when they ain’t... You know what? Let me hold that one down…Lol.

Teachers come under a little heat too. Sometimes they’re teaching a topic that they are well versed in, but now and again, they’re hit with questions that leave them a bit baffled. And that’s cool. Not because you’re great at something means that you know everything there is to know about it or that there isn’t someone possibly better than you are. Those are perfectly good moments to gain some new knowledge yourself. However, if the people you’re supposed to be educating constantly have you scratching your head, then you need to evaluate how much you actually do know.

Consistency is important.

Just like in the life of a believer, you’re not expected to be perfect. I mean, we don’t see anyone out here casting the first stones…Lol. However, there is some level of consistency that is expected to be maintained.

I do Olympic weightlifting. Occasionally, especially if someone asks me, I correct persons that may be doing the movements incorrectly or just give pointers on how they can improve on their lifts. Now even though I am still working on my lifts every day, I’m at a level where I can pass on some knowledge – and people are now watching me lift to gain pointers for when they’re lifting.

Can you imagine if I kept missing seven out of 10 lifts; what kind of example would I be then? What value would my advice hold? Again, the expectation isn’t that I be perfect, but that if I’m practicing what I preach, it should be working for me first. Most people at the gym won’t go on YouTube to do the research that I did. They won’t know who Mattie Rogers or Tian Tao is; they’re going to look to me. Then I can tell them to check this link and check this lifter.

I guess the moral here is that knowing what you need to do and doing what you need to do are really different things. And sometimes we’re the only “God” that people are going to see, so we need to ensure not only that we’re doing the things we need to, but also that we’re doing them consistently.

Why am I up at 1:45am?
