May the “trashiest” team win @ the International Coastal Cleanup

Join Environmental Protection in the Caribbean (EPIC), St. Maarten Pride Foundation and St. Maarten Development Fund (SMDF) for the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC). On Saturday, September 16, from 7:00 to 8:30 in the morning, nature enthusiasts and adventurers alike will gather at Little Bay Beach and Pond near Belair to help protect our shores by collecting trash.

The team that collects the most trash will win fun prizes!

Be part of the solution and join the mission to protect our oceans and shorelines with this year’s theme: “SEASTHECHANGE”.

This is the third year of the ICC at Little Bay Beach & Pond, and your participation is vital in addressing the growing issue of littering. Last year, the dedicated volunteers collected an astounding 1480.5 pounds of trash, including 692 pounds of glass and plastic bottles along the coastline and mangrove forest.

This year, we will once again use the Clean Swell App to record data, allowing us to track littering trends. Let’s aim to collect even more trash this year!

What are you waiting for? Follow these easy steps to join:

1: Register as a volunteer on and create a team of four to five people. (Note: You must register your team to qualify for community service hours.)

2: Download the Clean Swell App: Install the app on your smartphone to record the types of litter collected and contribute to valuable research. And make sure your phone is fully charged before you head out Saturday morning.

3: Wear closed-toed shoes and appropriate sun-protection gear such as hats and rashguards.

EPIC will provide gloves, garbage bags, refreshments, and prizes. Because, remember, prizes await the teams that collect the most trash.

May the “trashiest” team win!

Help protect our coastal and wetland ecosystems by being part of the change on Saturday, September 16, at Little Bay Beach and Pond! For more details, visit the event page or contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
