Competition and Community Spirit Ignited
The Business Hoops SXM 2026 tournament is currently underway in Philipsburg, St. Maarten, bringing an exciting blend of corporate teamwork, basketball rivalry, and community engagement to the island’s sporting calendar. Running from January 28 through February 7, 2026, this year’s edition has expanded its reach and impact, featuring a strong roster of business-affiliated teams vying for top honours on the court.
Beyond high-energy match-ups, Business Hoops SXM continues its commitment to local development. Recently, founders Jose Heiliger and Cleon Frederick presented a new iPad to the Soualiga Youth Basketball Association (SYBA) to improve the tracking of player statistics and support youth basketball growth on the island. Two SYBA games were also scheduled as part of the tournament, offering young athletes a chance to compete in front of larger crowds and gain media exposure.
“It’s been a great start to the tournament. Pool play delivered a mix of expected results and a few major upsets. Now, as we head into the quarter-finals, semifinals, and finals, we’re expecting some high-intensity, exciting basketball,” said Cleon Frederick.
Organisers emphasise that Business Hoops is not only a corporate sports event; it’s a networking platform and community builder that fosters connections across St. Maarten’s business landscape while investing in grassroots sports development.
