Beating the Monday blues @ Tortuga

Beating the Monday blues @ Tortuga

Looking for a new way to beat those Monday blues? Look no further than Ladies Night at Tortuga. Enjoy sweet vocals by the talented Cyndel harmonising with the rhythmic crash of waves upon the powdery white sand of Maho Beach.

Nestled into the heart of Maho, this hidden gem has it all – from unbeatable sunset views to live music by the island’s best musicians every weekend, and dishes to satisfy every taste any time of day.

Guests can enjoy plane watching while soaking up the sun by day, and when night falls, Tortuga becomes an ideal spot for stargazing, with the added spectacle of planes passing by. It's the perfect place to unwind and feel like you're on vacation.

At Tortuga, live music enhances the dining experience Friday through Monday from 6:00 to 9:00pm. On Fridays, Art & Audree serenade guests with a fusion of jazz, soul and pop, Saturdays feature Gianfranco Segatto's acoustic guitar mastery, Los Mojotos spice things up on Sundays, and Cyndel wraps up the musical weekend on Mondays. The best part? Owner Sebastiaan's emphasis on keeping the music mellow ensures that patrons can enjoy both the tunes and engaging conversations without straining their voices.

Tortuga is open seven days a week, but Monday night might be our personal favourite. Not only is Tortuga the perfect venue for a romantic and relaxing Monday evening listening to Cyndel’s enchanting vocals, but ladies also enjoy free Pornstar Martinis during dinner. So it goes without saying that we started off our evening with some sunset cocktails – including a sweet and frothy Pornstar Martini, a deliciously refreshing Rum Runner and breath-taking ocean views.

Patrons often rave about Tortuga’s friendly staff, and during our visit, we understood why. As we took our first sips, the bartender came to ask if we liked our drinks, which we, of course, did! The menu is also well-thought-out and, after checking it out, we decided to start with an order of the Shrimp Tempura to share. We were not disappointed! The shrimp was crunchy, yet juicy, and came with a perfectly creamy and flavourful garlic sauce.

For main, we opted for the Caribbean Fresh Catch, which was a flaky and fresh Red Snapper filet caught that same day, combined with a tasty creole sauce and veggies; and a fantastic Beef Tenderloin that came with sautéed green beans, creamy parmesan mashed potatoes and a rich red wine sauce that perfectly complemented the tender meat.

Both plates practically licked clean, we shared dessert. The sumptuous Espresso Martini with a perfect foam layer worked well with the crunchy-on-the-outside, melt-in-your-mouth-on-the-inside Chocolate Lava Cake – and we left Tortuga feeling like the weekend had started early.

Tortuga serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and is open daily from 8:00am. Don’t miss the daily happy hour from 3:00 to 5:00pm and the daily early-bird special from 5:00 to 6:00pm. Patrons can enjoy complimentary beach beds with a minimum purchase of $20 per person. For reservations or more information, contact +1 (721) 522-6246.
