St. Kitts wins low gross in Eastern Caribbean Tourney

MULLET BAY—Team St. Kitts won the annual Eastern Caribbean Golf Association Tournament hosted by the St. Maarten Golf Association over the weekend.  The 12 member St. Kitts team shot a 1,281 over the two-day 36-hole event to take Low Gross and the Title.
  . Martinique was second with a combined score of 1,307. The Overall Team Net score was won by St. Maarten at 1,122 after deduction of the team handicap.
    “Conditions were very tough,” said Larry Stott of team Anguilla.  “I shot better today, (Sunday) then yesterday but we are not in contention for any prizes.”
  Stott has played at Mullet Bay in the past.  “The course could use a bit of rain, but the tournament was nice.”
  The overall Low Gross score in the Men’s category where each team consisted of 4 men was won by Antigua with a combined Low Gross score of 444. In second place came St. Kitts with a combined Low Gross score of 447.
   The Overall Low Net score in the Men’s category was won by team St. Maarten consisting of Howard Hobgood, Kit Lee, Jesus Rivera and Stanley Samuel with a combined score of 417, followed by St. Thomas who shot a combined Low Net score of 436.
  The Overall Low Gross score in the Ladies team category consisting of 3 ladies per team was won by Martinique with a combined score of 334, followed by Guadeloupe who had a combined score of 348.
  The Overall Net Score in the Ladies team category was won by our own St. Maarten team consisting of Anne-Marie Bouillé, Sidsel Jacobsen and Gitte Poulsen who had a combined Low Net score of 283 beating the tournament favourites from St. Kitts by two shots.
  Team St. Kitts took the early lead. After the first day of play the 12 member team shot a 646 gross score over 18 holes.  Martinique was second at 653 and was followed by Guadeloupe with a gross score of 660.  Team St. Maarten was fourth at 662.
  In fifth place Saturday night was Antigua at 663. St. Croix was sixth at 669and followed by St. Thomas at 673 and Anguilla at 714.
  After the handicap host St. Maarten topped the leader board at 567 net.  St. Kitts dropped to second at 576 and St. Thomas was third at 589. Team St. Maarten also led in the Men’s Net category and Ladies Net.  In the Seniors, St Maarten was trailing leaders Martinique by just one stroke.
  Teams consisted of 12 including three ladies, four men, three seniors and two super seniors.  The St. Maarten Golf Team also consisted of Seniors: Sam Bashir, Steven Mix and Philippe Thevenet and Super-Seniors: Richard Gibson and Keith Graham.
  The St. Maarten team was selected based on their five best scores from the nine local monthly Medal Play tournaments.
