Second Cariburo Golf Tournament attracts 70 players at Mullet Bay

MULLET BAY—Close to seventy players took part in the second Cariburo Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 25, at the Mullet Bay golf course, which organiser Cariburo said was a resounding success.

After the passing of Hurricane Irma, office furniture company Cariburo insisted on organising a golf competition in December 2017, to allow devotees of the sport to obtain some light relief after their hardships and enjoy some social interaction after the disaster.
This year, another disaster has affected Sint Maarten/ St. Martin, as it has to the whole of humanity, a situation that once again motivated Cariburo to organise another competition to give a morale boost to dedicated golfers with support of the Sint Maarten Golf Association (SMGA) and the Mullet Bay venue.
On Saturday morning, 34 teams spent more than four hours in friendly competition on a surprisingly green Mullet Bay course thanks to some last minute rain. After a lot of par shots, birdies, but alas some bogeys, most of the participants met at the Sunset Beach Bar to have a bite to eat and recall their best or worst moments of the tournament while waiting for the announcement of the results and prize-giving ceremony.
The gross winning team went to Sam Bashir/Tony Lake with a score of 66 gross. They won a Cariburo ergonomic chair and a luxury duvet offered by Maison de la Literie.
Pompignan/Leblanc Moriniere was the men’s winning team with 61 net score. Second place went to Kerfourn/Legendre 61 net, and third place to Tinitali/Wescott with 61 net
The winning mixed team went to Poulsen/Jespersen with 64 net. Gould/Hurley were second with 65 net. The winning ladies team was Devaux/Marzi with75 net.
In addition to the prize giving, July coincided with the anniversary of Cariburo created in St. Martin in July 1985. A birthday cake was served to the guests after the winners blew out the 35-year-old candle.
A draw for scorecards with many gifts presented ended this day of camaraderie and conviviality among all the participants. Cariburo would like to thank all the participants, sponsors, the Mullet Bay Golf Course and the SMGA who worked to make this event a success.
