Ruby Labega victorious in Basketball Champion

PHILIPSBURG— Ismael Gumbs scored 19 points to lead Ruby Labega to the 2016 Interscholastic Primary School Basketball Champions at L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium Friday.  Ruby Labega defeated St. Joseph School 38-20.


  Ruby Labega started strong and led 11-2 after the first quarter. St. Joseph tried to climb back. They closed to within four points, 11-7, mid-way through the second quarter but defensive lapsed
  Ruby Labega netted four to end the quarter 15-7.
  In the third quarter, Ruby Labega scored nine points of which six were supplied by Ismael Gumbs to extend their lead to 21-11.
  St. Joseph continued to fight. They scored nine in the fourth. St. Joseph was led by Kayvaughn Schmidt with 10 points.
  St. Joseph advanced to the final topping Pool A with a record of 3-2. Ruby Labega won Pool B at 4-1.
 The tournament was organized by Walichi Basketball Association in collaboration with the Department of Sports, Island Hoops, P.E.P. and SYBA.
