SUCKER GARDEN—Lightning remains undefeated and in first place in the Ladies Basketball Championship. Lightning defeated Thunderz 54-32. Selah Fleming led the winning effort with 13 points She was supported by Tsjaquilla Jeffrey with 10 and Micaela Galva with 7.
Chantel Hodge and Nicairi Ortiz-David had 10 points each for Thunderz.
Going into the week three match at Melford Hazel Sport and Recreation Center, both teams were 2-0.
Lightning started the game with stifling defence and led 17-5 after the first quarter and 31-10 at the half and never looked back
The second senior division game saw Learning Unlimited face off against Bush T Remedy with each team looking for their first win. Learning Unlimited came flying out the gate with lots of energy and lead 23-8 after the first quarter. Bush T Remedy fought back in the third to get within 9 points but Learning Unlimited recovered and stretched the lead back to 18 and won 69-51. Learning Unlimited was led by Jakisha Brooks with 36 points, Rachael de Groot with 10 points and Ashley Matser with 9 points. Bush T Remedy was led by Tiana Lionel with 28 points.
The senior division standings are Lightning at 3-0, Thunderz at 2-1, Learning Unlimited at 1-2 and Bush T Remedy at 0-3
In the U16 Division Thunderz beat Learning Unlimited 10-3. Aisha Carty led Thunderz with 4 points and Aesha Gibson had two points for LU.
In the second game, Lightning beat Learning Unlimited in a close contest 6-4 with Lightning having 3 players with 2 points and Abigail Jones of Learning Unlimited scoring all 4 points for her team.
In the third game of this division, Thunderz won 4-2 against Lightning with Joanne Laurence with 2 points for Thunderz and Kayla Robinson with 2 points for Lightning.
In the U16 division, Thunderz are 3-1, Lightning 2-2 and Learning Unlimited at 1-3.
Games continue Sunday for the senior teams at 3:00pm as Bush T Remedy take on Thunderz and at 5:00pm Lightning tip off against Learning Unlimited. Entrance fee is $1 and food and drinks are on sale.
