MARIGOT--The first leg of the Guadeloupe Kitesurfing Championship organised by Guadeloupe League and Wind Adventures takes place on Saturday and Sunday, February 13-14, in Orient Bay.
35 riders from Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Martin and St. Barths are expected to participate in the two organised events. The first is a Speed Crossing on Saturday that gives competitors an opportunity to qualify for the French Championships.
The course will be set with buoys and starts in the zone of the Reserve Naturelle with a finish back in Orient Bay. It goes without saying riders will be choosing equipment for maximum speed.
Sunday is a freestyle event that will be professionally judged from the beach and undoubtedly will draw a big crowd of spectators to watch the tricks and aerials.
Competitors will be judged on criteria including complexity, fluidity, style, and height. Riders have a seven minute window to impress the judges with their moves.
Registration takes place all day on Friday, February 12, until 6:30pm at Club Wind Adventures (located between Kon Tiki and Kakao restaurants) and closes at 8:30am Saturday morning. Competitive license and 40 euros entry fee required.
