PHILIPSBURG—The first of a weeklong series of free baseball clinics was held at the Little league ballpark on Pond island.
Three representatives from the French Baseball Federation are conducting a series of six free clinics.
Clinics will be held Wednesday and Friday for the Pony League at John Cooper Jose Lake Sr. Ballpark from 3:00 to 6:00pm and Sunday at the field in Belvedere from 9:30am to noon.
Clinics will be held on the Little league field Thursday from 3:00 to 6:00pm and Saturday 9:30 to noon.
Tuesday the young athletes were run through a series of warm up exercise, practiced their throwing, fielded ground balls and then went to the batting cage for hitting practice.
“Baseball is an easy game. You field a ball and you throw a ball,” said Lahcene Benhamida, manager of the French U-12 National team and is in charge of training for coaches.
“We will be concentrating on the basic.” Joining Benhamida were Boris Rothermundt who serves as vice director of the Federation, manages the 18 and Under National Team and coaches the Senior National Squad and
Stephen Lesfargues who is the National Technical Director Chief.
Helping on the field were local players who have made the French national selection pro baseball player Rene Leveret and David van Heyningen.
