COLE BAY--Carib Swim Team garnered 745 combined team points to come in first, in the fifth annual St. Maarten Super Splash Sprint Meet the Carib Swim Pool in Cole Bay Sunday.
Host Super Splash finished second with 574.50 points and in third place was the Sharks Swimming Team with 340.50 points.
Five teams competed in the two day meet. Traveling to the Friendly Island were St. Croix Dolphins and the Statia Stingrays. Locally teams included Sharks, Carib Swim Team and Super Splash Swimming Team.
Approximately 100 swimmers age six to 18 competed in distances of 25 m, 50 m and 100 m for the individual swimmers and 200 m for the relays
The Meet was very competitive especially in the boy’s age 15 to 18 group where Alessandro Lombardo (Carib) and Quinton Cornelius (Sharks) had to share the First place in the 100 meter Breaststroke and total individual points.
Individual high score trophy winners were: girls eight and under Emma Croes (Super Splash) 32 points; boys eight and under Lorenzo Tjon Tam Pau (Super Splash) 37; girls 9-10 Chloe Boecasse (Carib) 38; boys 9-10 Benjamin Pocovi (Carib) 32. Girls 11-12 Naima Dessout (Carib) 42.
Boys 11-12 Keanu Jacobs-Guishar (Super Splash) 42. Girls 13-14 Taffi Illis (Carib) 38. Boys 13-14 Sharmar Thomas (Sharks) 40. Girls 15 – 18 Charlotte Backovic (Carib) 42. Boys 15 and over Alessandro Lombardo (Carib) and Quinton Cornelius (Sharks) tied with 37 points.
Swimmers received a medal for first, second and third place finishes.
The event was made possible because of the assistance from parents and students of St. Dominic High, the use of the Carib Swim Team pool and sponsors, SevenSeas, G.E.B.E. NV, Manrique Capriles, CC1 (Coca Cola), Heavenly Water, Wiems, Windward Roads and Tourist Bureau.
