The value of dialogue

Dear Editor,

I chuckled when I read the report on your Website of the "discussion on Haitian Plight in the DR" that took place at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library on Friday. It is a clear example of the hypocrisy of the government of the Dominican Republic in their attempt to purge themselves of their Haitian brethren. The DR benefits from the billions of dollars sent back to family members by their diaspora throughout the Caribbean and the United States by both legal and illegal immigrants to those countries. At the same time they allow such atrocities and transgressions of human rights of migrants to their country looking for a better life and the descendants of those migrants.

The opposition should talk less and focus on working together

Dear Editor,

The governing of this territory is the responsibility of the Island Council with the executive council tasked with the execution. That there is an overall concern since the instruction of BZK is understandable. The coalition government is surely taking this instruction seriously. What is a pity, is the fact that DP Statia is trying to prey on this instruction for political traction, which is understandable seeing their desperate need to govern, with the goal of executing the will of The Hague.

Belvedere homes in need of repairs

Dear Editor,

As we are approaching another hurricane season, the Ministry of Public Housing,Spatial Planning VROMI is busy getting things in place. The residents of Belvedere are particularly concerned about this hurricane season. Since last year, when Hurricane Gonzalez passed our way, the homes at Belvedere were left in a serious condition.
