Your reputation is on the line

Dear Editor,

Permit me to express a word of caution to our new Minister of VROMI, Claret Connor. I write this article with such a heavy heart, because I know that you are not in the right place but as much as I would like the situation to be different, only you have the authority to choose the direction of your life. However, it is the prerogative of any individual to make comments that could generate further thought. With this in mind, I would like to bring a few points forward, with the hope that, you, the minister would give them some consideration.

It’s time to move on

Dear Editor,

If government officials cannot address the public in a sober and civil manner, then they need to reconsider their position and move on. It is totally unacceptable for representatives of the people to express themselves in ways that are substandard to effective leadership. This pattern of behaviour seems to be a developing trend - a style that exposes their state of mind – a mind that is overruled by frustration, which has lead them to the point where they are unable to guide their thoughts.

Wow! Guard dogs in Front Street

Dear Editor,

“We've come a long way” is usually used in a positive sense. I do not know if it is necessary to have guard dogs to protect the store owners in their stores can be considered as coming a long way. I think it is a slap in the face of the police.

St. Maarten independent in 2020?

Dear Editor,

With so many politicians facing serious legal challenges, jail sentences, distrust locally, as well as from abroad, loss of their illegally and immorally-amassed wealth – no wonder it is time for the ‘Friendly Island’ to become independent – for them of course.

Speaking out loud & clear

Dear Editor,

Please allow me some much needed space to address some issues. Some current and longstanding issues with our once upon a time great country. Recently there has been a rash of immigration raids and drop of a dime traffic stops. Yes, they are immigration and in part they, IND, has to do their part to control and protect their islands borders. But, it is being approached in the wrong way.
