Van Henningen elected seniors foundation head

Marva van Henningen

HOPE ESTATE--St. Maarten Senior Citizen Recreational Foundation (SSCRF) long-time administrator Marva van Henningen was recently elected as the foundation’s president.

Van Henningen’s appointment follows the dissolution of the decade-old board and a general election on February 25. She has served as the foundation’s administrator for the past 14 years. She is joined on the board by Hays Hanson as vice president and Malcolm Cooper as treasurer.

The new president said the foundation needs community-minded residents who are or are willing to champion seniors-related causes and issues to join the board. The centre needs volunteers.

The foundation’s seniors have urged their new board “to diligently work” to acquire funds to repair and upgrading of their “centre” as they affectionately call the Senior Citizens Recreational Centre in Hope Estate.

Seniors meet regularly at the centre to spend time with friends, do arts and craft, for therapeutic exercise and computer classes as well as other activities.

To assist the foundation, volunteer or express interest in the board, contact Van Henningen on telephone number 520-7764.
