UPDATE: Man found dead in South Reward, woman shot in leg during argument

DUTCH QUARTER--A young woman was shot in the leg in Dutch Quarter on Thursday evening after intervening in a fight between a family member and a man known as “Ice Man” who shot her. Ice Man then fled to South Reward where he was found dead later behind a truck in the bushes near Carrot Road.

Details regarding the incidents are sketchy, but The Daily Herald understands that the deceased was arguing with his wife and when it got physical the bystander jumped between the quarrelling couple and was shot by the man who was waving a firearm at the time.

Police are still putting witnesses’ statements together in an attempt to understand what transpired. Police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said in a press release issued late last night that police had received word around 7:55pm that there was a fight between a man and a woman on Christiansted Drive, Dutch Quarter. The man shot one of the family members in her leg and drove off from the scene in a gold-coloured SUV. The woman was rushed by ambulance to St. Maarten Medical Center for further treatment.

The wounded woman is a nurse who works at the hospital, according to reports. She was wearing her uniform when she was admitted to the hospital for treatment.page1a200

Police were contacted at approximately 8:30pm and informed that the suspect in the shooting was lying on the side of Carrot Road in South Reward and “appeared not to be moving.” Police and Ambulance officials rushed to the scene and found the lifeless body of the man, who still had not been officially identified up to press time, according to Henson last night.

The mystery surrounding this man’s death is due to no apparent signs of foul play that led to his sudden passing. Dr. Mercuur arrived on the scene and pronounced the man dead, but could not determine the cause of death.

Residents of South Reward flocked to the scene while police cordoned off the area where the body lay and waited for forensic investigators to comb the scene. The SUV in which the suspect left the scene after the shooting was found later in the vicinity of Milton Peters College.

Police are requesting that witnesses come forward and assist them in solving the case as soon as possible.
