Two-day conference

Saba was the proud host of the second annual two-day conference held August 15 and 16, to foster cooperation among the islands of the Caribbean Netherlands, and to learn how each island has been managing within the new constitutional system.

The conference for Island Governors, Executive and Island Councils, and Registrars of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba was hosted at Queen’s Garden Resort. Guest speaker at the conference was Mayor of Geldermalsen Miranda de Vries, who gave an in-depth account of the difficulties faced when this city in the Netherlands was approached with a request for opening an asylum camp. While on Saba, the delegation was given a taste of the international cuisine offered at various restaurants. Other activities included an island tour, and for some, a hike up Mt. Scenery. “The two-day programme can be deemed a success. It was an enjoyable learning experience for all parties involved, and we look forward to seeing what next year’s programme brings,” Saba’s Island Secretary Tim Muller stated.
