Transmission cable fault causes outage

PHILIPSBURG--A “fault” on a transmission cable at the Zagersgut Substation of utilities company GEBE “developed an issue” which resulted in several distribution cables being interrupted on Thursday, causing power to be knocked out in several districts.

The power went around 1:00pm. GEBE media relations officer Paula Gordon said in a statement to the media that GEBE’s high tension team along with field engineers had worked on re-energising certain districts.

Parts of Belair up to and including St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) were amongst the first districts where power was restored after the outage which lasted almost three hours in some areas.
