MARIGOT—A sudden increase in temperature to a thermostat that controls the hydraulics was the cause of a malfunction at the Sandy Ground Bridge on Thursday morning at the 9:00am opening.

The drawbridge had to be lowered manually before traffic could pass over at around 11:10am.

Bridge Master Jean-Claude Walwyn Chance indicated the temperature rose to above 65F. Technicians on the scene resolved the issue however.

“We don’t know why that happened,” said Walwyn Chance. “The temperature is supposed to be lower than that. But there does not seem to be any major problem.”

Opening tests at 2:30pm and 5:30pm passed off successfully. Bridge openings will resume as normal on Friday at 9:00am, 2:30pm and 5:30pm.

Hervé Dorvil from the company SAMAGEST that manages Marina Royale and the Sandy Ground Bridge indicated the result of a bidding for a new company to maintain the bridge is being awaited from the Collectivité.
