SABA--Members of Saba Festival Foundation (SFF) met Monday with safety stakeholders to discuss their safety plan. The meeting was facilitated by the Public Entity Saba.
In attendance for the meeting were SFF President Lisette Riley, SFF member Kenrick Lake, Chief of Police Gerard van Loo, Chief of the Fire Department Julio Every, Fire Department member James Hassell, Public Health representative Koen Hulshof, policy advisor for Social Affairs Krijn Pons, policy advisor for public safety Fanny de Swart, and Julijnes Woods.
The aim of all involved parties is to ensure that Carnival 2017 is a fun and safe event. In a safety plan, the organizer of a major event describes the measures that will be taken to ensure the safety of visitors and the support they wish to get from safety partners, such as the Fire Department, or the Police Department.
On the basis of the new local ordinance, which was adopted in 2016, this is the first year that organizers of Saba Carnival, Saba Day and Saba Triathlon have a safety plan to submit.
The plan stimulates thoughts of possible threats that may occur, such as fights or fires breaking out, along with the corresponding procedures, processes and people to handle them.
The Chief of Police complimented SFF for its professionalism and cooperation, SFF said in a statement on Tuesday. Saba Carnival is scheduled to take place from July 23 to 30.
