Road safety session held for 50cc scooter riders

The Gendarmerie held a training session on safety for scooter riders on Thursday.

MARIGOT--The Gendarmerie in collaboration with the Judicial Protection of the Youth organised a safety awareness session for riders of 50cc scooters in the Galisbay car park on Thursday.

Eight young people ages 14 and up took part in the half-day session which focused on driving in busy urban areas, safety and a reminder of the rules of the Highway Code. Both practical and theoretical instruction was given.

Emphasis was made on wearing a crash helmet correctly and at all times; wearing gloves that protect the hands in case of a fall; the obligation to have insurance in case of accidents; the dangers of risky driving, doing “wheelies,” and speeding between two lanes of traffic; and the importance of signalling a change of direction in good time, respecting speed limits and following the rules when transporting a pillion passenger.

Advice was also given not to strip down two-wheeled vehicles because of the risks missing parts represent.

The State services remain mobilised in preventive actions to improve the security of the population.
