Restricted area for traffic in Great Bay on Sunday

~ Front Street also closed ~

POINTE BLANCHE--A restricted area designated as a “danger zone” will be marked in Great Bay for marine traffic in connection with the post-St. Martin/St. Maarten Day air show over the bay from 3:00 to 5:00pm Sunday.

The Maritime Department of Port St. Maarten said Friday that the danger area is restricted for vessels not participating in the event.

The Department requests that vessels regularly anchored or on a mooring in the area clear the area for the event. The Southern and Eastern sides of the zone will be marked with orange floats. Maritime vessels are to stay South and East of these floats.

The Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard and Port St. Maarten vessels will keep vessels clear of the danger area.

The section of Front Street from the Roman Catholic Church cemetery to Wilhelminastraat (the Courthouse) will also be closed on Sunday from 12:00pm to 12:00am in connection with the air show over Great Bay and Boardwalk Boulevard.

All alleys linking Back Street and Front Street in the affected section will also be closed to traffic, the Ministry of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Development and Infrastructure VROMI announced on Friday.

The closure is to facilitate access of emergency response vehicles to Front Street in the event of an incident during the air show.

All deliveries must be completed before 11:00am Sunday. No exceptions will be made once the street and alleys are closed off, said the Ministry.
