ROTTERDAM--Family and friends of Rene “Kobie” Paul are still in shock after hearing the news from the Netherlands that he was robbed and killed on Friday. It is reported that the incident happened in the Burgemeester Meineszlaan, Rotterdam.
Paul and his friend are said to have travelled to the Netherlands last week to buy a truck from some unknown persons. Still early in the investigation, reports suggest that he was set up by the assailants and gunned down on the spot.
Family members in St. Maarten are making preparations to travel to the Netherlands to identify the body and are expected to travel this week.
Paul was known on the island for his drag-racing skills and resided on the French side. He also drove heavy-duty dump- and crane-trucks.
Another man, also from the French side, is said to be in a coma in the Netherlands. He also was shot while with Paul when the incident occurred, according to media reports.
