SIMPSON BAY--The 36th St. Maarten Heineken Regatta has just confirmed the chart topping duo “R. City” to perform during the weekend’s musical events. This dynamic team is no stranger to the music scene: as songwriters they have had the opportunity to compose lyrics for other performers such as Usher, Justin Bieber and most recently gave the world the multiplatinum, chart-topping hit from Rihanna’s “Pour It Up.”
They will perform on Saturday night, March 5, 2016, on Kim Sha Beach at midnight.
Music lovers have certainly heard a tune written by these talented Caribbean natives, originally from St. Thomas, as their lyrics have been belted out by some of the most renowned pop singers of today. Songs such as “We Can’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj’s “The Night Is Still Young” and Sean Kingston’s “Take You There” are just a few of the hits they have crafted. These songs have dominated the airwaves around the world, and their talent doesn’t stop there.
In addition to writing lyrics, the talented brothers Theron and Timothy Thomas have recently released another hit and this time it’s their own. The song “Locked Away,” featuring Adam Levine from Maroon 5, has raced to the top of the charts. Released in the summer of 2015, the song quickly rose to the number one position on the Billboard top 100.
The heartfelt chart topper came from a very personal place for the brothers. This original song was inspired by their parent’s relationship and struggle when their father was incarcerated for five years.
“The tag line in almost every one of our songs has been ‘Right About Now’ as is also the case with the Billboard single ‘Locked Away’ featuring Adam Levine. We are pumped to perform in St. Maarten for the very first time and we look forward to providing the audience with a high energy show as was recently evident at our Madison Square Garden performance in New York for iHeart Radio’s Jingle Balls event,” stated R. City.
The line-up for Saturday is set to be a myriad of sounds from around the region. The night begins with Orange Grove with performers from The Netherlands and St. Maarten, followed by Honeypot from Aruba and Ziggi Recado (Netherlands and St. Eustatius). Then it’s time for the crew from St. Thomas, for what will most certainly be an upbeat and fun performance by R. City.
