PHILIPSBURG--Authorities are seeking the assistance of the public to catch the robber who escaped the scene of Wednesday’s armed robbery at Oro Diamante on Front Street in which bike patrol Officer Gamali Benjamin was shot and seriously injured.
One robber was shot and captured shortly after the incident, but up to late last night authorities had not yet captured the second suspect.
The police and Prosecutors Office said in a joint statement that the suspect was considered armed and “very dangerous” and “no one should attempt to arrest this person.”
The suspect is a young dark-skinned man between the ages of 17 and 20 years.
His hair suspect is long at the back with one braid with white beads. He is of “normal posture” and was wearing dark sneakers, white socks, shorts and a white T-shirt with big brown stripes.
A top fitting the description given by authorities was lying in the middle of Back Street yesterday. An eyewitness told The Daily Herald she had seen one of the bandits take off the top and drop it while fleeing the scene.
Authorities said that if the suspect was seen the police should be called via 911. “The police could really use the assistance of the public,” authorities said in the release. Authorities said persons with information about the robbery should come forward and share this information with authorities or call tel. #9300.
