Ocean Lounge receives ‘Wine Spectator’ Award of Excellence

Staffers hold up the award.

PHILIPSBURG--The open-air Ocean Lounge Restaurant at Holland House Beach Hotel in Philipsburg received an Award of Excellence from the Wine Spectator’s Guide for the fourth time recently.

Every year, the Wine Spectator's guide recognizes restaurants around the world whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appealing to a wide range of wine lovers.

To qualify for an award, a wine list must present complete, accurate information, including vintages and appellations for all selections.

Complete producer names and correct spellings are mandatory, and the overall presentation of the list is also considered.

The list at Holland House offers more than 120 labels from around the world and are stored in a climate-controlled cellar cabinet. They are hand-picked by management and staff and chosen based on their taste, value and pairing ability with the menu, it was stated in a press release. The restaurant and lounge also feature a premium wine by the glass programme that is interesting for those who enjoy a wider variety and closer pairing with their meals.

Chef de cuisine is Chef Wendell Laurence, who made a name on the island and who creates a blend of Caribbean, European and American Cuisine.
