ST. EUSTATIUS--New playground materials for all primary schools and afterschool programmes in St. Eustatius arrived from The Netherlands and were delivered to these institutions during the weekend.

Bethel Methodist, Golden Rock Roman Catholic and Lynch Plantation Seventh-Day Adventist Primary Schools and Buzzy Bees day-care centre, Mega D Youth Foundation, Daughters of the King Foundation, St. Eustatius Sports Facilities and Statia Earth Farm and Garden Foundation are the beneficiaries of this project.

Project managers of the school playground material project Children Rights Coordinator of the public entity St. Eustatius Dirkje de Jong and Ingrid Whitfield of the Reconstruction Committee Statia explained that three of the primary schools had opted for play material while Governor de Graaff School had opted for expanding its schoolground to accommodate a greenhouse project.

To ensure that children in Statia have access to quality and age-appropriate play material outside of the school environment, provisions were made to ensure that afterschool programmes and other organisations catering to young children, such as Buzzy Bees and Statia Earth Farm and Garden, are also well equipped.

The play materials purchased from a specialised company in the Netherlands have arrived on the island and will be installed by several local contractors throughout the coming weeks.

Each school and organisation received the opportunity to select their own play material. The funds for this project were made available to the public entity’s Directorate Society and Welfare by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations’ Jetta Klijnsma Fund for Children’s Rights.
